Bethenny Frankel faces backlash for calling Kanye West a ‘genius’

Mentioning it all doesn’t always go over well.

Bethenny Frankel upset some fans by tweeting that Kanye West is a “genius” amid his many controversial social media posts targeting estranged wife Kim Kardashian.

“Say what you will about @kanyewest personal choices, but when it comes to marketing & music,he is a genius,” the former “Real Housewives of New York City” star, 51, tweeted Wednesday.

Frankel’s attempt at a compliment was immediately met with backlash within the Twittersphere.

“Bethenny please stop,” one user replied, to which the reality star snapped back, “It’s a conversation Angie. You can handle it.”

“So harassing your ex is genius? Sick,” another tweeted.

“After all you went through with your ex, you post this?!? Wow,” a third user wrote, referring to Frankel’s tumultuous eight-year divorce from ex-husband Jason Hoppy.

The former Bravolebrity went on to ask her 1.5 million followers whether they believe West’s “scary & erratic & abusive” behavior is “marketing” for his new music, which yielded mixed opinions.

“It’s marketing but to praise it as ‘genius’ when there are actual victims involved here is a bit ridiculous and insensitive for you to do,” one user tweeted.

Frankel was quick to deny praising West, though, arguing his behavior feels “very calculated” and acknowledging he has made “bad decisions” online.

The Skinnygirl founder ended her Twitter discussion by saying her followers came to the conclusion that West’s tirades were a “strong & dangerous combination” of “marketing + mania.”

“For those of you up your own ass, enjoy the view,” she concluded.

Frankel’s social media dialogue came a week after she advised the rapper to press pause on his Instagram rants.

“My advice to Kanye would be: You have to stay the course. You cannot go rogue and take matters into your own hands when it comes to the divorce and custody process. It will only hurt you,” she said on her podcast, “Just B with Bethenny Frankel.”

“Kanye, in particular, he’s talking into the court of public opinion instead of talking to the court of the custody of your children,” she added.

West and Kardashian, 41, share four kids: North, 8, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 2.
