Sarah Jessica Parker reveals she carried a fake Birkin on ‘Sex and the City’

“It’s not a bag. It’s a Birkin.”

Well, not exactly. During her “Life in Looks” interview with Vogue released Wednesday, Sarah Jessica Parker divulged that the bright blue Hermès bag she carried in a 2002 episode of “Sex and the City” was actually a fake.

The actress toted the knockoff as a way to hide her baby bump, as she was pregnant with son James Wilkie while filming Season 5 of the HBO hit.

“That is not a real Hermès bag, just so you know,” SJP, 56, recalled while revisiting the look. “Pat [Field, the series’ costume designer], like, had a person. And she was like, ‘Do you want one? I could get you one.'”

Unfortunately, the faux purse failed to achieve its purpose.

“That bag had one job to do, and did it very poorly,” she joked, pointing to her very visible pregnancy in the photo. “Maybe if it was a real Hèrmes bag, it would’ve done a better job!”

As for the green terrycloth tube dress Parker teamed with the tote, however?

“The dress is real, and it’s Juicy Couture,” she quipped.

The star’s revelation is particularly amusing considering that a Season 4 episode of “Sex and the City” follows Samantha’s (Kim Cattrall) quest to obtain a Birkin of her own.

“It’s not so much the style, it’s what carrying it means,” Samantha tells Carrie (Parker), adding, “When I’m tooling around town with that bag, I’ll know I’ve made it.”

Unable to simply walk into an Hermès store and buy one of the status satchels, Samantha name-drops new client Lucy Liu to bypass the waitlist — and winds up losing both the bag and Liu’s business.

Perhaps she should’ve gone for a knockoff, too.
