Amy Schumer gives female comics advice at open mic

Fresh from hosting the Oscars, Amy Schumer stopped by an open mic night called “Unladylike” at Stand Up NY this weekend and gave advice to aspiring female comics.

“Amy asked the female open mic-ers while she was on stage if they had any questions after her set,” says an awestruck attendee. “Most of the questions were along the lines of advice on being a female comic in a male dominated industry.”

The source tells Page Six that Schumer’s advice was to just “keep going.”

“She offered words of encouragement, like the fact that you’re already at an open mic is wonderful,” the spy continued. “She was saying that they should keep going, be prepared and have different skills in comedy like performing, writing and directing.”

Along with being a stand-up comic, the “Inside Amy Schumer” star wrote, performed and co-produced the 2015 hit movie “Trainwreck,” and executive produced 2018’s “I Feel Pretty.” She also wrote and executive produced her current hit Hulu show “Life & Beth.”

We’re told the comic did not mention the Oscars or Will Smith’s infamous Chris Rock slap at the awards ceremony.

She did recently say of the incident, according to The Hollywood Reporter: “I was kind of feeling myself… and then all of a sudden ‘Ali’ was making his way up… And it was just a f–king bummer. All I can say is that it was really sad, and I think it says so much about toxic masculinity.”

Schumer was presumably referring to Smith as “Ali” from when he played famed boxer Muhammad Ali in the 2001 biopic by director Michael Mann.

The weekly ladies open mic is produced by comedians Sarah Adelman and Yvette Segan.
