Jada Pinkett Smith hopes Will Smith, Chris Rock can ‘reconcile’ following slap
It’s Jada Pinkett Smith “deepest hope” that Will Smith and Chris Rock will reconcile after the infamous 2022 Oscars slap.
In the latest episode of Facebook Watch series, “Red Table Talk,” Smith said she really wants “these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile.”
“The state of the world today, we need them both,” she continued. “And we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”
The episode, which aired on Thursday, focused on alopecia, a hair loss condition from which she suffers and was the root of Rock’s “G.I. Jane” joke that lead to Will slapping the comedian on-stage back in March.
The “Girls Trip” star shared that several others who suffer from alopecia reached out to her following Rock’s joke at her expense.
“This is a really important ‘Red Table Talk’ on alopecia. Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories,” she revealed.
“I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition and to inform people about what alopecia actually is.”
Pinkett Smith, 50, previously discussed the autoimmune disease on a 2018 episode of “Red Table Talk,” where she initially revealed her diagnosis and shared the “terrifying” experience of losing ones hair before they’re ready.
“I was in the shower one day and then just handfuls of hair just in my hands … It was one of those times in my life that I was literally shaking with fear.”
She continued, “My hair has been a big part of me. Taking care of my hair has been a beautiful ritual.”
Smith has since apologized for hitting Rock, and was banned by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from all Academy events for 10 years.
As for Rock, he’s been pretty tight-lipped about the ordeal, only briefly joking about the moment after Dave Chappelle was also attacked on-stage at the Hollywood Bowl.
“At least you got smacked by someone of repute! I got smacked by a homeless guy with leaves in his hair,” Chappelle said to Rock during their secret show in LA, to which Rock responded, “I got smacked by the softest n—a that ever rapped.”
