Imagine Dragons lead singer and wife Aja Volkman have separated
Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds has announced that he and his wife, Aja Volkman, have separated after more than ten years of marriage.
“I am saddened to say that after many beautiful years together Aja and I have separated,” the singer tweeted on Friday. “Being great parents to our children is our number one priority. Thank you for always supporting us with love and care for all these years.”
The former couple share four children: daughter Arrow, 10, twin daughters Gia and Coco, 5, and son Valentine, 2.
Reynolds and Volkman married in 2011.
In early 2018 they revealed that they were planning to divorce.
“After 7 beautiful years together, Aja and I’s marriage has come to an end,” the rocker tweeted to his fans at the time. “Our children continue to be the most important thing in our lives, & we will continue to co-parent them with all our love.”
However, later that year, Reynolds revealed that he and Volkman never went through with divorce proceedings, had reconciled and even co-wrote the song “Bad Liar” together.
Volkman shared an emotional post on Instagram praising her husband.
“I’m proud of you @danreynolds I’m proud of your humility and ability to still show up as the basketball coaching baby loving Dad that you are,” she gushed. “I know that it’s been a crazy road. It’s killed us both in so many moments. Last year we killed each other and now we are rebuilding.”
Reynolds founded the popular band in 2008 in Utah after he began attending Brigham Young University.
The “Believer” singer, who was raised Mormon, previously confessed to regretting the anti-gay message he preached as a missionary.
Reynolds credited his wife for his change of heart, saying, “She taught me what I already knew in my heart, which is to be gay is beautiful.”
