Jessica Simpson sparks concern with ‘strange’ behavior in Pottery Barn ad
She took their breath away, but not in a good way.
Jessica Simpson sparked concern among her fans after not looking or sounding like her usual self in a new Pottery Barn advertisement.
“Hi, I’m Jessica Simpson, and welcome to my daughter Birdie’s room, designed by Pottery Barn Kids and a little bit of me,” the “With You” singer, 42, said in the video posted to her Instagram Thursday.
“I was really drawn to the geometric prints and the color scheme. This really, to me, is Birdie’s personality,” she continued while seemingly slurring her words.
“Thank you everyone for checking out the adorable room of Birdie Mae Johnson,” Simpson concluded with a smile.
While some fans complimented the “Irresistible” singer’s keen eye for interior design, her comments section was mostly flooded with messages of worry about her weight and speech.
“Something is wrong here,” one follower speculated, racking up nearly 3,000 “likes” from people in agreement.
“Wtf happened to her face. She can barely speak. Shame,” a second person wrote.
“Please tell me I’m not the only one that hears her voice being totally slow…is she ok?!?!” a third asked.
“Why does she talk like that now,” another wondered. “it’s just strange, it’s in every video of her talking. Like she is trying really hard to get the words right.”
“Respectfully…she looks frail,” a netizen observed.
But other fans called out the haters and urged them not to make judgments.
“It’s sad that all these comments are about her appearance. It’s none of anyone’s business. I wish people were kinder,” one follower commented.
“If she does have an eating disorder it’s not her fault so these comments are not helpful being ridiculed over her weight gain after her pregnancies 😢,” another defender wrote.
“Super cute room! And for the haters, she has always been a small woman, just not when pregnant (as 95% of women) – so cut her some slack. Let her live! ❤️,” a third added.
Three years ago, Simpson embarked on a weight loss journey that resulted in her dropping 100 pounds.
“I went to a nutritionist, and I needed to get my eating habits right,” she shared in September, adding, “I feel like my old self before I had children and all the hormones going wild. I feel younger, actually.”
The pop star opened up about her struggles with body image issues after being criticized over an infamous 2009 photo of her wearing mom jeans.
“This picture that circulated and went worldwide broke my heart,” she told Hoda Kotb on the “Today” show in February 2020. “Not the picture necessarily, but the caption. Like, all the captions.”
The fashion designer added, “I was taken down by the world.”
Simpson also candidly wrote about her health in her 2020 memoir, “Open Book,” revealing she was once “killing” herself with an addiction to pills and alcohol.
The businesswoman shares three kids — Maxwell, 10, Ace, 9, and Birdie, 3 — with her husband, Eric Johnson, whom she married in July 2014.
