Gerard Piqué slams Shakira and her fans: They ‘have no lives’

Gerard Piqué has learned to block out the critics who slam him for allegedly cheating on Shakira.

Over the weekend, the former soccer star sat down for an interview with Gerard Romero where they talked about how Piqué has been handling criticism since his split from the Colombian singer in June 2022.

“In the beginning, it was bad and it reached a point where if I had let things get to me, I would have thrown myself off a cliff,” he confessed in his native Spanish, adding that it was his nonchalant attitude that saved his mental health.

Piqué further talked about how “95 percent” of people’s issues arise when they “tend to care about things that aren’t that important.” In his opinion, the only things worth worrying about are “serious health issues, family and relationships.”

However, his relationship proved to be a point of contention when he and Shakira, 46, called it quits after 11 years together.

Following news of his alleged affair with model Clara Chia Marti, fans were quick to slam Piqué on social media.

“For example, my ex is Latin American … you can’t imagine [the comments] I’ve gotten on social media from her fans. Millions of barbarities!” he told Romero during the interview.

“But I don’t care about any of it. Honestly, not at all because I don’t know them. These people have no lives and why should I care? I’ll never meet them, they’re robots, you know?”

Piqué, 36, added that his nonchalance “is healthy because if you care about people’s opinions, you’re dead.”

“They want you to worry and when you do, they would have won. You have to show them that you don’t care because it gets them angrier,” he added.

Following his interview, many people — including Shakira herself — called out Piqué for xenophobia after he implied that Latin Americans are “barbarians” for criticizing him.

One person tweeted in response to the interview, “Why the f–k did you have to mention that your ex is Latina? Do you think that Latinos insult or harass more than people from other countries? Why did you say that? Plus Shakira has fans all over the world. You really are digging your own grave.”

Meanwhile, others called him “xenophobic” and showed off their Latino pride.

Shortly after, the singer tweeted that she was “proud to be Latin American” along with dozens of Latin American flag emojis.

Piqué — who share sons Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8 with Shakira — previously claimed he wasn’t sorry for leaving the “She Wolf” singer “devastated” by their split.

“I keep doing what I want,” the retired athlete told El Pais last month.

“The day I die, I will look back and hope I have always done what I wanted,” he explained. “I want to be faithful to myself.

Meanwhile, Shakira first spoke out about the breakup in September 2022, saying she was trying to keep things amicable with Piqué for the sake of their children.

“Regardless of how things ended or how Gerard and I feel about each other as ex-partners, he is the father of my children,” she told Elle at the time.

“We have a job to do for these two incredible boys, and I have faith that we will figure out what is best for their future, their own dreams in life, and what is a fair solution for everyone involved,” she added.

However, the songstress changed her tune a few months later by releasing numerous diss tracks about her ex and his 24-year-old girlfriend.

In one song, Sharkia said she was becoming “triple M” — “much hotter, much tougher [and] much lighter” — now that she is single. She also suggested that there was a “place in hell” for Gerard’s new girlfriend.

As a final goodbye, the singer fled Barcelona with her two sons to start a new life in Miami — without Piqué.
