Rita Wilson reveals truth behind her, Tom Hanks’ Cannes red carpet ‘scolding’

Tom Hanks will maintain his reputation as the nicest guy in Hollywood.

After the “A Man Called Otto” star and his wife, Rita Wilson, went viral for appearing to scold a man on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet for “Asteroid City,” the singer clarified that neither she nor her husband could hear given the loud screaming.

“‘This is called I can’t hear you. People are screaming. What did you say? Where are we supposed to go?'” she wrote over an Instagram Story screenshot of an article about their alleged tiff.

“But that doesn’t sell stories! Nice try,” she continued. “Go see Asteroid City!”

Video footage from the carpet backs up Wilson’s explanation, as loud music played and fans screamed for the duration of the event.

Dressed in a classic black tuxedo, the Oscar-winning actor and the “Throw Me a Party” songstress were photographed looking angrily at an unknown man on the red carpet.

The exchange appeared to last only a few moments, as the “That Thing You Do!” co-stars continued to make their way down the glitzy red carpet and pose for photos.

The longtime couple’s appearance comes nearly a month after the “Forrest Gump” star and Wilson celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary.

“35 years of marriage. April 30, 1988. Love is everything,” Wilson, also 66, captioned a photo of herself gazing at her hubby.

They share two children together: sons Chet, 32, and Truman, 27.

The “Cast Away” actor also is dad to son Colin, 45, and daughter Elizabeth, 41, from his previous marriage to his college sweetheart, Samantha Lewes.
