Katharine McPhee appears somber back in Los Angeles after nanny’s shocking death

Katharine McPhee is continuing to keep a low profile in the wake of her nanny’s shocking death.

The “American Idol” alum appeared solemn while photographed getting into her car in Los Angeles Monday, three days after she rushed home from Asia to face the “horrible family tragedy.”

McPhee wore a white tee, black high-waisted shorts, sandals and a black baseball cap as she got into the driver’s seat of her Tesla.

The 39-year-old completed her dressed-down ensemble with several gold bracelets on her wrist, as well as a matching necklace.

McPhee similarly kept her face covered with a hat when she arrived at LAX airport on Friday.

Earlier that same day, the “Smash” alum told her Instagram followers that she was leaving her and husband David Foster’s tour early.

“Dearest Jakarta fans, it’s with heavy heart I announce I have to miss our final two shows of our Asia run,” she wrote at the time. “David and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us need to get back home to our family,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

“Please know how sorry I am and how much I wish to return one day and perform for you all,” the actress concluded. “Love Katharine.”

While McPhee did not elaborate further, news broke on Tuesday that Yadira Calito — the nanny to McPhee and her husband David Foster’s son, Rennie — was killed after an elderly woman accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake at a car dealership.

Calito was fatally struck at a Toyota dealer in the San Fernando Valley, Calif. on Aug. 9, TMZ reported.

Calito had been waiting for her car to be serviced when an 84-year-old woman “drove a white Toyota RAV4 into the covered service bay driveway.”

Calito was “pinned under the SUV and dragged for about 20 feet” before bystanders helped free her from under the vehicle, per the outlet.

She was taken to hospital in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver has not been arrested.

When McPhee flew home upon discovering the tragedy, Foster, 73, performed the final two shows on their tour solo.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2019, welcomed their 2-year-old in February 2021.

The 16-time Grammy winner is also the father of daughters Allison, 52, Amy, 49, Sara, 41, Erin, 40, and Jordan, 36, from previous relationships.
