Heidi Montag got part of her ‘chin sawed off’ during 2009 plastic surgery overhaulĀ

Heidi Montag is reflecting on her November 2009 plastic surgery overhaul ā€” including getting part of her ā€œchin sawed offā€ ā€” and how it impacted her final season of ā€œThe Hillsā€ with husband Spencer Pratt.

ā€œAt the time, my surgeon was like, ā€˜Oh, it will be a quick recovery, a few months.ā€™ And it took me over a year to heal, so I could barely talk [with] my jaw,ā€ the ā€œSuperficialā€ singer, 37, says on Page Sixā€™s ā€œVirtual Reali-Teaā€ podcast.

ā€œI just had part of my chin sawed off,ā€ she continues. ā€œIt was really a lot just dealing with that.ā€

At the age of 23, Montag notoriously underwent a whopping 10 cosmetic procedures at once ā€” shortly before production picked up for the sixth and final season of ā€œThe Hills.ā€

The surgeries, performed by the late Dr. Frank Ryan, included a chin reduction, updated breast augmentation, rhinoplasty revision, brow lift, liposuction, facial fat injections and pinning her ears back, among others.

ā€œI wasnā€™t even in a place [to film]. And I kept saying, ā€˜Iā€™m not a person right now. I need to heal and recover and Iā€™m not doing well physically.’ Like, Iā€™m not able to show up like I was,ā€ the reality star recalls telling MTV producers.

ā€œI thought Iā€™d bounce back and be able to be on TV like I was after my first cosmetic surgery,ā€ continues Montag, who had a boob and nose job years prior. ā€œBut there was just way too much done and each thing took too much time and it hurt so bad.ā€

She adds, ā€œI was just in such an immense amount of pain.ā€

Montag ā€” who acknowledges that the succession of surgeries was ā€œobviously [her] choiceā€ ā€” says she wasnā€™t ā€œaware of the repercussions,ā€ including a near-death experience.

ā€œThey called Spencer at a point and told him I had died basically. I wasnā€™t doing well,ā€ she says of her post-op scare.

She explains that, at one point, her heart was beating only five times per minute after she was allegedly administered the incorrect dose of the opioid Demerol for pain relief.

“At the time, my surgeon was like, ‘Oh, it will be a quick recovery, a few months,'” Montag reflects. “And it took me over a year to heal.” Roger Kisby

ā€œWe had to have nurses at the house for months to help me recover,ā€ Montag says of the aftermath.

ā€œSo weā€™re dealing with that and then we have these producers like, ā€˜Say this and that.ā€™ And weā€™re like, ā€˜We canā€™t do this.ā€™ā€

The couple ā€” known to fans as ā€œSpeidiā€ ā€” eventually bowed out of ā€œThe Hillsā€ halfway through Season 6.

Today, Pratt and Montag co-host a podcast called “Speidi’s 16th Minute.” Roger Kisby

Today, though, theyā€™re claiming more time in the spotlight with a new podcast, ā€œSpeidiā€™s 16th Minute,ā€ part of Spotifyā€™s The Ringer Podcast Network.

ā€œSometimes nobody knows what is going on with the paparazzi set-up,ā€ Montag tells us of the project that explores the underbelly of reality TV and its impact on pop culture.

ā€œSo itā€™s kind of an inside scoop, too, of Hollywood ā€¦ sharing that inside information that people donā€™t want to necessarily divulge.ā€
