Demi Lovato returns to Met Gala eight years after slamming star-studded bash as ‘terrible’ and ‘fake’

Demi Lovato made a shocking return to the 2024 Met Gala on Monday, eight years after swearing off the star-studded soirée.

The “Heart Attack” singer, 31, arrived at fashion’s biggest night in a shimmering silver Atelier Prabal Gurung gown.

With its dimensional paillette flowers, the design played into the evening’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” theme to dazzling effect.

Lovato accessorized with a sprinkling of De Beers diamonds, including a 64-carat necklace and 15-carat earrings.

The “Cool for the Summer” songstress, who’s an ambassador for the anti-wrinkle injectable Xeomin, looked as fresh-faced as ever at the event.

Hair artist Cesar Deleon Ramirez styled her brunette locks long and straight, while makeup maestro Rokael Lizama was behind Lovato’s shimmering metallic eyeshadow and glossy nude lip.

Lovato last attended the Met Gala in 2016, selecting a sequined silver Moschino gown with baroque gold accents for the “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology”-themed ball.

Although it marked her debut at fashion’s biggest night, the evening was far from magical for Lovato.

Post-party, the singer shared a since-deleted photo with the hashtags, “#cool #sof—kingawkward #notforme.”

In the snap, Lovato posed on the red carpet as Nicki Minaj, who was also dressed by designer Jeremy Scott, appeared to give her the side eye.

“This picture pretty much summed up my first and probably last met 😂😂😂,” the “Camp Rock” star wrote.

Two years later, Lovato reflected on her “terrible experience” at the Met during an interview with Billboard.

“This one celebrity was a complete bitch and was miserable to be around. It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink.”

In fact, the singer — who has been on a sobriety journey for years — was so rattled by the gala that she left early and headed to an AA meeting.

“I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on—millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting,” she revealed.

“And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala—fake and sucking the fashion industry’s d—k.”

Since then, it was assumed that Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who overseas every detail about the gala, had banned Lovato from attending. However, it looks like both women are giving it another shot.
