Reese Witherspoon’s daughter Ava Phillippe celebrates Pride Month after saying ‘gender is whatever’
Ava Phillippe is ringing in Pride Month in style.
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe’s daughter shared a smiling snap of herself waving a rainbow flag on Saturday.
“Once upon a time, some gal on the internet said ‘gender is whatever’ in reference to her own sexuality,” the 24-year-old captioned the Instagram upload. “Many took her words out of context, but she knew what she meant.”
Ava concluded, “Anyways, this is her posting for the first day of pride month 2024.”
Her A-list followers showed their support in the comments, with Kristin Chenoweth gushing, “Yes” alongside a series of heart emojis.
Alyssa Milano added, “This picture made me smile so big. Happy pride!”
Heather Dubrow and Tommy Dorfman also left multiple heart emojis.
Ava wore a crop top and green pants, which she belted with a necklace, in the barefoot shot. She completed her look with dangling earrings and glasses.
In addition to the photo, Ava reposted a quote on her Story on Sunday that read, “Pride is important because someone tonight still believes they’re better off dead than being themselves.”
The UC Berkeley graduate made headlines in January 2022 when she was asked about her sexuality during an Instagram Q&A.
“I’m attracted to… people! (Gender is whatever),” she wrote at the time in answer to a question about “lik[ing] boys or girls.”
Later that same week, Ava took to her Stories to slam her trolls.
“QUICK REMINDER: I can & will block profiles commenting bigoted/hateful messages under my posts,” she wrote. “My Instagram profile is not a place for cruelty/hate speech & I intend to do what I can to keep it that way. Peace & Love.”
Ava’s last public relationship was with Owen Mahoney, whom she began dating in 2019, but it is unclear whether the pair are still together.
She is Witherspoon’s eldest child, with the “Big Little Lies” actress also sharing sons Deacon, 20, and Tennessee, 11, with ex-husbands Phillippe and Jim Toth, respectively.
