Shannen Doherty said she was ‘hopeful’ about chemo in last podcast episode before death

Shannen Doherty said she was “hopeful” about her chemo treatments in the last podcast episode she posted on Instagram before her death.

“I have no idea how long I’m going to be on the chemo for,” she said on the June 25 episode of her “Let’s Be Clear” podcast. “I have no idea if it’s going to be, you know, three months or if it’s going to be six months. Or, if we’re, you know … if after three months it’s not working, if we’re going to change again.”

The “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum explained that her cancer treatment plans were not something she nor her doctors could predict.

“And it’s scary. It’s like a big wake-up call,” she admitted. “At the same time, I got to say, there is some positivity there. And the positivity is that because my molecular structure of my cancer cells changed recently, it means there’s a lot more protocols for me to try.”

However, Doherty said she felt “hopeful” about the treatments because there were so many more protocols in place now.

The “Heathers” actress’s longtime publicist, Leslie Sloane, told People in a statement Sunday that the “Charmed” alum had sadly passed away. She was 53.

“It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” she told the outlet.

“The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”

Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2015. The cancer spread in her body after she received a delayed diagnosis due to her suing her former business managers for allegedly mismanaging her money, which caused her health insurance to lapse.

Following the news of her death, Doherty’s frenemy and former “Charmed” co-star Alyssa Milano released a statement, saying the late actress was someone she “deeply respected and was in awe of” despite their “complicated relationship.”

“She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her,” Milano, 51, added.

Doherty’s TV brother Jason Priestley wrote on Instagram that he was “shocked and saddened” to hear about the death of his “friend.”

“She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time,” he added.
