Kehlani accuses ex Javaughn Young-White of abuse, gets temporary restraining order amid messy custody battle

Singer Kehlani was granted a temporary restraining order against their ex Javaughn Young-White Friday after they accused him of physical, verbal and emotional abuse.

The “After Hours” singer, who uses she/they pronouns, filed in the Superior Court of Los Angeles last week to protect themselves and their 5-year-old daughter, Adeya, from Young-White’s erratic behavior, according to court documents obtained by Page Six on Tuesday.

In their filing, they said Young-White has been abusive for years — including during their pregnancy — but they decided to finally get a restraining order after an incident in mid-June during which he allegedly became “enraged” and “smashed through [their] locked bedroom doors [in] a fit of anger.”

Kehlani, 29, said Young-White called them a “bitch” and “liar” and accused them of trapping him by having their child.

They claimed their ex became furious after they learned he had applied for public assistance and asked him about it. At the time, he was allegedly living on their property and doing nothing but “smoking marijuana every day and all day” as well as taking psychedelics.

In their filing, Kehlani also accused Young-White of disappearing for months at a time and lacking “personal hygiene and self-care.”

“If he has our daughter in his care, she is returned filthy and reeking of marijuana,” they complained.

Further describing his alleged turbulent behavior, Kehlani wrote, “He is not emotionally well and appears to suffer from periods of despair and often tirades of uncontrollable anger and rage.”

“When he is agitated, he cannot stop moving and throws his arms in the air while yelling and screaming at me, often throwing items and calling me horrible names.”

The two-time Grammy nominee said his behavior “scares” them and “can imagine it is very upsetting to a small child.”

They said they only allowed him to stay on their property at times because he continuously “promised to be a better parent” and they wanted to try their best to allow him to have a relationship with their child.

However, after five years of “chaos and abuse,” they no longer believe he can change and wants to protect their peace as well as Adeya’s.

The restraining order expires at the end of a Sept. 3 hearing, which will take place at 8:30 a.m.

Kehlani’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment. Young-White, however, responded to the abuse claims by sharing alleged text messages from Kehlani on social media that seemingly show they were begging him to call them in June.

He further wrote, “she busted through her own door and is framing her abuse as mine.”

The musician submitted their petition for the restraining order days after Young-White filed for full custody of Adeya and claimed they are in a “cult.”

In his filing, which was obtained by Page Six, he claimed the leader of the cult was controlling Kehlani’s “actions and her behaviors,” including how they raised their child.

He said the so-called “cult” is why Kehlani would not add him to Adeya’s birth certificate and allegedly would not let him see her “for months.”

However, Kehlani clapped back on social media following their ex’s filing.

“What has been published in the media over the past 24 hours is incredibly hurtful, inaccurate, inappropriate, and simply untrue,” they wrote on Instagram.

“I strongly deny any claims that I have put my child in harm’s way, or left my child alone with anyone deemed dangerous or unsafe.”

Kehlani and Young-White dated from 2018 to 2019.

They gave birth to their daughter in March 2019.
