Dakota Johnson shoots down Chris Martin breakup report: ‘Happily together’
Dakota Johnson shot down reports that she and Chris Martin had broken up.
“The reports are not true,” Johnson’s rep told Page Six just hours after the rumors surfaced on Friday.
“They are happily together.”
Rumors first surfaced after a source claimed to the Daily Mail that the couple, who has been together for over seven years, “[had] now accepted the relationship is over — and it’s best to move on.”
The rumors also came as Johnson, 34, has been absent from Coldplay’s European leg of their “Music of the Spheres” tour, which is completely sold out and set to end on Sept. 2 in Dublin, Ireland.
They were further fueled by the actress not wearing her engagement ring from the singer, 47, throughout the summer.
However, Johnson was last seen supporting Martin and his band in June when she attended the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, England.
The couple first started dating in 2017, three years after Martin split from ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow. The singer shares two kids with Paltrow – Apple, 20, and Moses, 18.
Despite a brief breakup in 2019, which neither Martin nor Johnson has confirmed to this day, the two moved in together and sparked engagement rumors a year later.
At the time, she was seen with a green engagement ring on her finger. However, an insider told us in March that the couple has actually been engaged for the last six years.
Since the start of their relationship, Martin and Johnson have remained fairly quiet about their romance. However, they have been very open about their co-parenting relationship with Paltrow.
The three – along with Paltrow’s partner, Brad Falchuk – have gone on multiple trips together with the kids.
In March, Johnson opened up to Bustle about her role as a stepmom, saying, “I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart.”
“I grew up in a family that was so big, and I just believe in the saying ‘Blood is thicker than water,’” Johnson – whose mother, Melanie Griffith, married Antonio Banderas – explained. “The actual saying is, ‘The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb,’ which means that the connections with people you choose are more solid than the connections to the people you’re actually born to.”
Paltrow, 51, and Martin tied the knot in 2003 but split in 2014.
