Higher Gas Prices? Blame It On NorCal

The price of a gallon of gas has gone up 11 straight days.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County rose 2.6 cents today to $3.433, the 11th consecutive increase after dropping 40 times in 42 days.

The average price has risen 32.4 cents over the past 11 days, including 6.4 cents on Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The average price is 24.9 cents more than one week ago and 18.1 cents higher than one month ago, but 85.5 cents less than one year ago.

The recent increases are the result of reduced supply caused by a partial reduction of production at Chevron’s Richmond refinery in Northern California following flaring on Tuesday, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.
