PALMS, CA — A Los Angeles police officer fatally shot a man holding family members at knifepoint early Wednesday during a reported domestic dispute in the Palms neighborhood in Los Angeles, authorities said.

Officers responded to a call in the 3600 block of Keystone Avenue, near Overland Avenue, early Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The suspect was injured during the shooting and taken to a hospital. He later died from his injuries.

Officers entered the apartment and saw the suspect armed with a knife when the shooting happened, police said. No other people were injured.

Information was not immediately available on the identity of the fatally wounded person.

The circumstances of the shooting were under investigation.
