DANVILLE, CA — San Ramon Valley Unified School District Superintendent John Malloy will be leaving at the end of the school year, Malloy and the SRVUSD Board announced. Malloy has accepted a position as Assistant Executive Director of the National School Superintendents Association after serving as SRVUSD superintendent for four years.

“The news that he will be leaving us is bittersweet,” Board President Laura Bratt wrote in an email sent to district families. “We are thrilled for him and not at all surprised that educational leaders recognize his talent, but we will miss working with him. In his role as Superintendent, he has been a transformative leader, challenging both staff and students to think differently and lean into complex issues affecting our educational climate. He has fiercely advocated for equity, consistently pushing for fairness and inclusivity across all aspects of our District.”

Bratt said Malloy’s accomplishments were “far too lengthy to list” but include the addition of a student board member student senate, changes in early literacy instruction, the addition of social-emotional support, improved labor relations, and a more robust college and career readiness plan.

Malloy released a brief email and longer video addressing his departure.

“I will miss everyone here, and I have so much appreciated the privilege of working with all of you as we serve our students,” he said. “This district has so many amazing qualities. Our students are brilliant, and I mean that sincerely. Our staff is so effective for them. Our parents, caregivers, and community are so engaged, and that adds to our students’ success. I know that our board will be working quickly and smoothly for the transition to go well, and I will be here till the summer working very hard on our students’ behalf, but i wanted to let you know this news, and to thank you again for touching my life, for inspiring me, and for allowing me the great opportunity to serve the San Ramon Valley Unified School District.”

He holds a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Toronto.

The SRUVSD is holding a special board meeting Monday night about finding a replacement, and have created a Superintendent Search page.
