Dunkin' Offers Free Lattes & Espressos To Starbucks Fans

You can score the coffee-wars freebie by showing a Starbucks app on your phone.

LOS ANGELES, CA – The brand that "keeps America running" wants you running from Starbucks to its stores for your frothy-coffee fix.

In a bold move to snag Starbucks customers, Dunkin' is offering patrons who present their Starbucks apps on their smartphones a free small latte or espresso drink at any Dunkin’ location in Orange County and the greater Los Angeles area through Sunday, Dec. 16.

With an advertising slogan of "sipping is believing," Dunkin’ (which dropped the "Donuts" from its name this fall) is promoting its new, handcrafted espresso drinks, determined to become the destination for lattes, cappuccinos, Americanos and macchiatos, according to company officials.

And if you miss out on this week's freebie, the chain will sell to customers, who show the Starbucks app, a medium latte or espresso drink for $2 -- roughly $1.60 off the normal price -- at its stores throughout L.A. and O.C. from Dec. 17 through Jan. 20.

But do note: The offers are only valid if the app is shown when placing the order. The freebie is one per person per visit with no beverage substitution and is not available on mobile app orders.
