Reiner’s new film, And So It Goes, is also a fusion of romance and comedy. Its main theme bears similarities to his previous films. “I basically make the same movie over and over again,” Reiner laughs. “The woman is always more advanced and more developed and emotionally able. And the man is like an idiot running around, trying to figure it all out, until he realizes that he should be with the woman.”

The idea for the film came about during the press junket for Reiner’s 2007 hit, The Bucket List. According to the director, “Everyone asked the same question: what’s on your bucket list?” The thinking bulb started to blink, and finally, a concept for a new film was born.

And So It Goes is about people finding each other at a certain point in life, a later point in life,” remarks Reiner.

The film stars Oscar®–winning actors Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton who respectively play Oren and Leah. Both are jaded when it comes to love and romance; they just feel that they will not be involved romantically ever again.

About this column: Beau Behan’s claim to fame is that his last name being the same as that of the Irish novelist, Brendan Behan. He sees himself as a romantic Rudolph Valentino type, but realizes you probably don’t. As a film critic, his work has been featured in NBC Bay Area, NBC News and Boston Globe, and can be seen on the TV show, “Beau’s Flicks & Nix”, on the Comcast Hometown Network. A “Flick” is a movie, and a “Nix” is just an opinion, nothing more. (BeauBehan.com)
