The Theory of Everything is the exceptional and uplifting story of the widely-acclaimed cosmologist Stephen Hawking. Directed by Academy Award winner James Marsh (Man on Wire), the film is based on the memoir written by Jane Wilde Hawking, Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen.

Starring in the movie are Eddie Redmayne (Les Misérables) and Felicity Jones (The Invisible Woman) as Stephen Hawking and Jane Wilde.

Redmayne has earned widespread critical acclaim for his performance as the brilliant astrophysicist. Most recently, he was awarded with this year’s “Hollywood Breakout Performance Actor Award” (2014 Hollywood Film Awards) and “Spotlight Award” ( 37th Mill Valley Film Festival).

The actor will also be presented with the “Desert Palm Achievement Award” by the Palm Springs International Film Festival at its annual Awards Gala on January 3, 2015.

I sat down with Redmayne to talk about his meticulous preparation to play his role of a lifetime; his experiences meeting Stephen Hawking and Jane Wilde for the first time; his great respect and admiration for his co-star Felicity Jones; any ‘theory of everything about Eddie Redmayne.’

The movie’s storyline begins in 1963, when a University of Cambridge student, Stephen Hawking, pursues his doctorate in cosmology. He meets an arts major, Jane Wilde, and they fall in love. Their world is full of promises until one day when Hawking receives a major diagnosis: motor neuron disease or ALS that will eventually cause paralysis, and take away his life within two years.

With Jane’s unwavering commitment and love for Stephen, they wed, and start a family. Together, they “defy every expectation both scientific and personal.”
