What's New On Netflix: January 2024

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Netflix land ushers in the new year with a number of highly anticipated brand-new offerings sure to dazzle everyone this January 2024.

Streaming fans, buckle up! It is going to be a bumpy ride when blockbuster “Lift” finally takes to the Netflix skies on Jan. 12. The action-comedy film stars Kevin Hart as Cyrus Whitaker, a professional thief enlisted by Interpol agent Abby Gladwell (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) to pull off the heist of the century: Stealing $500 million in gold from a passenger plane at 40,000 feet. His heist crew includes the magician Denton (Vincent D’Onofrio), the wheelwoman Camila (Úrsula Corberó), the wisecracker Magnus (Billy Magnussen) and the digital artist N8 (Jacob Batalon). Can they all survive the turbulence?

What if your plane had crashed deep in the Andes Mountains, where temperatures could reach 40 degrees below zero? And what if the rescue team would not locate your whereabouts until 72 days later? “Society of the Snow" also takes to the Netflix skies in January. Based on real-life events, the Spanish-language survival-drama film — which is a major contender in the 2024 Oscar race for Best International Feature — tells the near-impossible story of the 16 passengers who survived the 1972 Uruguayan Andes flight disaster. Be forewarned: What actually transpired during those 72 days is not for the faint-hearted.

Among the much-awaited original series making their screen debut in January are “The Brothers Sun,” an action-packed drama series starring Michelle Yeoh as the badass family matriarch Mama Sun, as well as “Griselda,” a crime-drama series starring Sofia Vergara as the infamous Columbian drug lord Griselda Blanco.

Netflix will also welcome several popular movie collections, such as “John Wick,” “Mama Mia,” “Meet the Fockers” and “Jurassic Park.”
