  1. Residents at the Skandia Mobile Country Club are fearing homelessness. This is a 55-and-older mobile home community that recently changed hands. The new owners began charging new homeowners up to $750 more while putting existing homeowners on notice that the rents would go up $75 each year for three years, but wouldn’t say anything of what would happen next. Residents want rent control. However, HB’s Measure EE prohibits it. (Spectrum News1)
  2. The OC Transportation Authority (OCTA) is giving $11 million to its cities. The money comes from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA). The money is intended for β€œpaving and upkeep of streets.” The disbursement amounts depend on the number of residents per city. However, each city will receive at least $200,000. (New Santa Ana)
  3. Public Works is offering free sandbags to residents. Bring a shovel and come to 17371 Gothard. At this point, street maintenance is still going forward as scheduled. (@CityofHNPIO)
  4. Are you wondering how the redistricting efforts are coming along? There are currently several redistricting proposals available for your review. Take advantage of the comment period to make your voice heard! (Board of Supervisors)
  5. The oil spill has been the catalyst that is bringing fossil fuels into the crossfire. Governor Gavin Newsome stated, β€œWe don’t see oil in our future.” He proposes, starting 2023, to β€œban development of new oil and gas wells near schools, hospitals, and homes.” However, he has to get this plan past oil and gas industry lobbyists, who have already managed to kill an anti-fracking bill. Also, there are the oil industry workers to consider and the investments California has in fossil fuels. (Cal Matters)
