Man Killed In Boat Crash At Long Beach Marina Identified

Eleven people were rescued from a sunken boat that crashed into a jetty in Alamitos Bay in Long Beach this week.

LONG BEACH, CA — Authorities Friday identified a man who was killed in a boat crash at the Long Beach Marina this week.

John Correa, a 59-year-old resident of Long Beach, and 10 other people were aboard a 48-foot power boat that was discovered sunken at about 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the Long Beach Fire Department, speed was likely a factor in the crash.

Correa was pronounced dead at the scene and the remaining victims were taken to a hospital, including three who were in critical condition according to a report from NBC 4.

"[Correa's] untimely death in a tragic boat accident has left a profound void in the community that he so deeply enriched," his obituary on Real Memorial Press said.

The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation, authorities said.
