Submerged Vehicles, Rockslides And Mudslides Hit Malibu Area

MALIBU, CA — Malibu Canyon Road has reopened Monday morning after a rockslide impacted travel on the road earlier, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station.

The following roads remained closed as of 10 a.m.:

• Piuma Road between Las Virgenes and Cold Creek
• Topanga Canyon Boulevard between Robinson Road and Highvale Trail

The Sheriff's Station reported at 10 a.m. that multiple vehicles were submerged on Piuma Road, large boulders had fallen between Piuma Road and Potter Drive and the road was blocked at 501 Sadie Road in Topanga Canyon.

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station reported at around 7 a.m. that there was a minor mudslide off Cornell Road in Agoura Hills, which the California Highway Patrol was handling.

Another minor mudslide was reported at 28900 Eagleton St in Agoura Hills., Public Works was notified.

And on Balkins Drive in Agoura Hills there was a vehicle reported as being submerged.

Additional problems in the area included multiple vehicles submerged on Piuma Road and a 10-foot boulder on northbound Malibu Canyon Road, two miles north of Pacific Coast Highway.

The Sheriff's Department advises motorists to avoid seeking alternate routes using other canyon roads. "Due to the winter storm, all canyon roads leading to/from Malibu are experiencing rock and mud slides," deputies said.
