NAPA, CA — Napa County Public Health reported the first confirmed coronavirus death of a Napa County resident. The death occurred Tuesday and was an adult patient who was being treated at a hospital.

Pending notification of immediate family and due to confidentiality laws, Napa County Deputy Executive Officer Molly Rattigan said no other information is being released at this time.

"Our hearts go out to the patient’s family, and friends during this difficult time," Napa County Public Health Officer Dr. Karen Relucio said.

"More than ever, it is crucial that we practice physical distancing, and if we are sick, even with mild illness, make every effort to self-isolate from others and follow the shelter at home order," Relucio said.

As of Tuesday, there were 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Napa County. The 15th case is a patient who resides in an unincorporated area near the city of Napa.

Editor's Note: Napa County has not officially identified the deceased resident. However, during a virtual town hall Tuesday night, Sonoma County's Interim Public Health Officer Dr. Sundari Mase said the coronavirus-related death of a Santa Rosa police detective who was a Napa County resident was "a sad loss" really felt by the community. The police department is expected to release more information Wednesday in memory of Detective Marylou Armer.
