Choking Hazard Prompts Recall Of Kraft Cheese Singles

The plastic could stick to the cheese slice and cause choking.

The thin film wrapped around individual slices of Kraft cheese singles could cause choking hazards, the company said Monday, announcing that it was voluntarily recalling 36,000 cases of the product.

Kraft Heinz said it has receive 10 complaints about the packaging, three of which included reports of choking.

The individually wrapped singles, commonly used on sandwiches and hamburgers, contain a thin, plastic film that separates the slices. The plastic on the recalled cheese is more likely to stick to it and be ingested.

The recall applies to three- and four-pound Kraft Singles American and White American pasteurized prepared cheese that have a “best when used by” date of December 29, 2015 through January 4, 2016, followed by the manufacturing code S54 or S55, as seen in the images above.

Kraft says 36,000 recalled products were shipped to retailers in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman.
