Coronavirus Deaths Continue Climbing In Coachella Valley

The Coachella Valley now claims nine of the 13 deaths countywide.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Four more Riverside County residents have died from complications due to coronavirus, including the first Southwest Riverside County death.

A Wildomar man in his 80s, a Cathedral City man in his 60s and a Palm Springs man in his 70s are among the newly confirmed dead. Information about the fourth victim was not yet available, according to Brooke Federico, spokesperson for Riverside County.

It is not yet known whether any of the four had underlying health conditions, Federico said.

Tuesday's grim update brings the county's COVID-19 death toll to 13. Nine deaths have occurred in the Coachella Valley — all of them older residents. A man in his 70s from Beaumont has also died from the disease, as has a Moreno Valley man in his 50s and the Wildomar man.

A 25-year-old San Diego man, who is not included in the death toll because he is not a Riverside County resident, died in La Quinta due to COVID-19 complications.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there are 371 confirmed COVID-19 cases countywide, with 30 people recovered from the illness, according to county health department figures. The number of confirmed cases jumped by 80 since Monday.

Cities that show a higher number of positive cases include Palm Springs with 31, Riverside with 30 and Moreno Valley with 29.

The county is now providing figures for confirmed COVID-19 cases in unincorporated areas. Southwest Riverside County's French Valley has the most as of Tuesday afternoon with seven confirmed cases. El Sobrante has six. Overall, 29 cases are confirmed in the county's unincorporated areas, the data show.
