Fiery Crash Ignites Palm Springs Brush Fire, 2 Critically Injured

PALM SPRINGS, CA β€” A head-on crash in unincorporated Palm Springs Tuesday morning caused a brush fire and left two people with critical injuries, according to authorities.

The fiery wreck was reported at 9:06 a.m. on northbound Highway 62, north of Interstate 10, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

When fire crews got to the crash site, they found two vehicles had hit head-on and a fire was burning.

The crash caused a fire that burned one of the involved vehicles and three acres of nearby brush.

Just before 11 a.m., the fire's forward rate of spread was stopped, according to the fire department. Cal Fire/San Bernardino County, Palm Springs and Cathedral City fire departments assisted Riverside County Fire Department crews in knocking down the blaze.

The crash cause is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
