Each booth will offer safety activities and resources, plus tours of emergency vehicles also are planned, police said.

The nationwide National Night Out tradition began in a Pennsylvania town in 1970, and the annual campaign, intended to build police and community camaraderie, began expanding across the country in 1984.

Petaluma PD said its upcoming event will be "great fun for the whole family!"
