Recall: Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango

Fiat-Chrysler is phoning some SUV owners and telling them to stop driving their vehicles immediately because of potential safety problems.

This may be the smallest recall you’ve ever heard about--but also the most urgent.

Fiat-Chrysler is picking up the phone and calling 65 owners of vehicles to tell them to stop driving those vehicles immediately. Instead, the automaker is urging vehicle owners to arrange to have their vehicles inspected exactly where they sit.

The issue: a component in those vehicles was not properly heat treated and could break, leaving the driver with “rear-end instability and/or reduced braking power,” according to the company. The specific part in question is the rear control arm.

The recalled vehicles are 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs assembled from June 12 through June 20. Just 65 of the vehicles are in the hands of owners; the rest are on dealership lots or in transit. Those 7,600 vehicles will also be inspected.

All vehicle owners, not just those potentially involved in this recall, can check their VIN number on this government website to see if it is involved in any outstanding recalls.

Fiat-Chrysler says it has fixed the problem at its assembly plant.
