PETALUMA, CA — A 38-year-old Petaluma man, sought in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident and possible gunfire, was arrested Monday morning on Liberty Road in Petaluma after an hours-long, overnight search involving multiple law enforcement units, according to authorities.

A 911 call was logged Sunday shortly before 9 p.m. from a woman claiming her boyfriend assaulted her and was in possession of a gun, with dispatchers on the call hearing gunshots in the background, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies, along with Petaluma Police Department officers, went to the 900 block of Liberty, found the female and family members and took them to a safe location, officials said.

Maldonado was booked into jail on eight felony charges, one misdemeanor charge and $2.5 million bail.

"We typically do not release information about domestic violence incidents," the sheriff's office said. "However, the heavy police presence in the rural neighborhood generated a significant amount of public concern and interest. We want to address the public’s safety concerns."

Deputies also noted that "domestic violence is never acceptable," and victims can call the 24/7 Sonoma County YWCA-operated domestic violence crisis hotline at 707-546-1234, the sheriff’s office at 707-565-2121, local law enforcement or 911 if in immediate danger.
