Blast Injures Four, Rocks South Bay Apartment Building

TORRANCE, CA -- Four people were injured Sunday in a possible gas explosion that took place in an apartment building in Torrance, authorities said. The blast took place about 1:15 p.m. inside an apartment building in the 23500 block of Anza Avenue, north of Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Torrance Fire Department.

The explosion severely damaged two units in the building, Torrance Fire Department assistant fire chief Steve Treskes said.

The four injured people were treated at the scene and then transported to hospital for further help, Treskes said. There was no immediate word on their ages or genders or their medical condition.

Torrance police shut down Anza Avenue in both directions between PCH and Lomita Boulevard, Treskes said.
Torrance fire department's hazardous materials team was called to the scene to test for more natural gas, he added.
