Lost Coyote Pup Saved By Peninsula Firefighters

A Cal Fire crew in San Mateo County sprang into action after they spotted the confused pup wandering alone Thursday morning.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — The heat wave and holiday kept firefighters busy across the Bay Area on July 4, but one Peninsula crew still found time to help a young coyote they found struggling and separated from his mother.

According to Cal Fire, firefighters at Station 17 in the Highlands were familiar with the pup and had previously seen him running around with his mom in tow. But on Thursday morning, he appeared to be disoriented and struggling to walk — with no mom in sight.

The firefighters fed the young animal chicken and poured him fresh water while they waited for the Peninsula Humane Society/SPCA to provide further care. Cal Fire said the animal rescuers determined the coyote was dehydrated and malnourished and took the "tiny beast" in for a little more TLC.
