15 Deaths, 849 Confirmed Coronavirus Cases In San Diego County

Health officials ​announced Wednesday that five more residents have died from COVID-19, bringing the region's death toll to 15.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — San Diego County health officials announced Wednesday that five more residents have died from COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus, bringing the region's death toll to 15.

The victims included a 90-year-old woman, 83-year-old man, 74-year-old man, 73-year-old man and 71-year-old man.

Officials also confirmed 115 new COVID-19 cases. Based on the current total of 849 cases, the death rate is now at 1.8 percent of cases in the county.

According to figures released Wednesday, 19 percent of the people who tested positive have been hospitalized because of COVID-19, including 8 percent in intensive care.

A total of 11,343 tests have been reported in the county, officials said.

Of the total cases, 45 percent were women, 54 percent were men and 1 percent were unknown. The majority of the cases, 60 percent, are among individuals between 20 to 49 years old.
