Man Arrested After 6-Hour Standoff In San Diego County

POWAY, CA — A man was arrested after a six-hour standoff with a SWAT team over the weekend in San Diego County, authorities said.

A man called 911 around 1:30 p.m. Saturday to report that his roommate attacked him with a box cutter at a home in the 13000 block of York Avenue in Poway, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The victim suffered abrasions during the altercation with his roommate.

"Deputies with the Poway Sheriff's Station arrived on scene and contacted the suspect to de-escalate the situation," Lt. Gavin Lanning said. "They kept talking to the man to convince him to come out of the house and surrender peacefully, but he refused."

A helicopter, crisis negotiators, K-9s and a sheriff's SWAT team surrounded the home, Lanning said. The suspect, identified as Travis Bradley Miller, 32, was arrested without incident shortly after 8 p.m.

Miller was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and violating the conditions of his probation.
