Santa Cruz County Vacation Rentals Temporarily Banned

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Vacation rentals will not be allowed to operate in Santa Cruz County through May 3, the county announced Thursday. Any bookings should be canceled and current visitors should leave.

Santa Cruz County is under an extended shelter-in-place order through May 3. The order requires residents to stay home unless leaving for essential business.

Vacation rentals are not essential businesses, the county said in a news release. Rentals may continue operating if they are housing emergency or public safety workers, medical workers, essential workers, or families providing critical health care needs for local relatives.

People who own vacation rentals in Santa Cruz County but live elsewhere should not quarantine at their vacation rental, the county said.

Anyone who violates the order could be fined or spend time in jail.
