SANTA MONICA, CA — A possible blown transformer caused a loud bang in Santa Monica and Venice Saturday night, the Santa Monica Police Department told Patch.

People heard a loud 'boom' or explosion sound in the Santa Monica and Venice area sometime around 9:30 p.m.

Authorities say it was likely a blown transformer.

It blew up in the south end of the city of Santa Monica, police said. The exact location was not immediately available.
