Unite with Silicon Valley’s Finest to Honor the Heroes of 9/11
The Veterans Memorial &amp; Support Foundation will host a tribute to Remember and Honor 9/11 Survivors, Victims and Heroes on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 8AM – 9:30 AM, at The Flame of Liberty Memorial, 110 East Main Street, Los Gatos, CA. The event is outdoors on the Los Gatos Civic Center Lawn and is FREE and open to the public. September 11, 2001, began as an ordinary, late-summer day. As the sun rose, fair weather and blue skies prevailed over much of the country and thousands of commercial airliners prepared for flight. But, in less than two hours' time, this seemingly routine day was transformed when 19 terrorists boarded and hijacked four commercial airplanes to attack America.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed when the hijacked planes were flown into the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon near Washington, DC, and when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in the Pennsylvania countryside outside of Shanksville, PA.
Two local United Flight 93 heroes attempted to take back cockpit control from terrorists - Todd Beamer and Mark Bingham. Todd and Mark never wore a uniform and never attended any military training. Many would say they were killed in action. Their selfless acts of courage prevented the Capitol Building and all within it from being annihilated. Moreover, thanks to their quick efforts, our government escaped harm at a crucial time when it was critical to act against terrorism.
Americans have demonstrated on numerous occasions that they know how to RISE AGAIN, STAND UNITED, STAND STRONG. 9/11 was no exception. Today is proof positive that America knows how to RISE. A new World Trade Center adorns the footprint of the former Twin Towers and beautiful memorials commemorate the lives lost at the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and the crash site in Shanksville Pennsylvania. We commemorate the lives of Mark Bingham and Todd Beamer locally at our own Flame of Liberty Memorial located at the Los Gatos Civic Center.

9/11 was a day that changed and shaped our nation. For the friends and family of the 2,977 victims, it was a day of immeasurable loss. For Americans around the country – and the world – it was a time of unity in the face of a shared struggle. And for some, it was a call to action.

RISE!  A Tribute to 9/11 Survivors, Victims and Heroes

Join Jennifer Frost, Associate Professor of History at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, for a discussion and Q&amp;A about her book "Let Us Vote!", which tells the story of how and why the United States has a voting age of 18. Registration for this event is recommended.

The FREE community-wide outdoor “MUSIC AT SKYPARK” concert series finishes its 15th season on Sunday Sept. 29 at Skypark in Scotts Valley.&nbsp;
The concert features The Shady Rest Band
(playing “rock ‘n blues with strings attached”, complete with female lead vocals, violin, congas, guitar, bass and drums) from 1:30 to 3:00, and headliner Extra Large (funky grooves rooted in blends of classic rock, funk gyrations, Blues, reggae riffs and Latin beats) from 3:30 to 5:00. Bursting with horns, strings, drums and bass, Extra Large has repeatedly headlined Music at Skypark. 
The all-volunteer Kiwanis Club of Scotts Valley will once again put on this concert and dedicate all profits to the music programs at local schools (concert profits over the years now top $200,000). Kiwanis and local businesses will offer food, wine, beer and other concessions for sale.&nbsp;Kids activities and plenty of dancing.
