VENICE, CA — A driver hit and injured a woman and child in Venice Friday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The crash happened about 8:45 a.m. Friday at Speedway and Galleon Street, police said.

The victims were taken to a hospital and their injuries were not believed life-threatening, police said.

Details of the collision were not immediately available, and the age of the child was not disclosed.

The driver, whose name was not immediately released, was taken into custody and a DUI investigation was underway.

The area was closed for traffic for several hours during the investigation, Los Angeles Police Lt. Ensley said via Twitter. Streets in the area were reopened about 10:20 a.m.
