VENICE, CA — Two suspects who attacked Larry Elder and his aide during a campaign stop at a homeless encampment in Venice remain at large, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Friday.

The leading Republican candidate in the Gubnertorial recall was near 3rd Street and Rose avenues when a woman in a gorilla mask and pink wig rode by on a bicycle and attempted to egg him. Then, a crowd started to chase the candidate and his team. The woman missed, throwing the egg just over his head as the crowd swarmed. Elder was then pushed inside a vehicle that drove off.

Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Area detectives are now investigating the attack that happened on Elder's aide, who approached the suspect in the gorilla mask, police said. The suspect started yelling and hit the aide, slapping him on the face. As the aide and Elder walked to the vehicle to leave the aide was hit again, this time in the back of the head by another suspect who was yelling at him. During that altercation, an unknown person approached the aide from the side and struck him in the face.
