EAST HARTFORD, CT — In the town of East Hartford, a soldier is always standing watch over the town's government hub and the citizenry in general.

The town's Doughboy statue was a fixture this week on a gloomy morning approaching the 105th anniversary of the end of World War I. It stands along the 800 block of Main Street.

Town historians point out the soldier is "at the ready" for the entire town.

The statue was put in place in 1929, "by the citizens of East Hartford," and underwent restoration work five years ago to commemorate the war's 100th anniversary. The statue was designed to remember those who fought and died and those who survived.
