Why does your mom rock?

My mom is the single most loving and giving person I have ever known, and she is very special to the town of Granby. We moved to Granby when I was 3, 33 years ago. It wasn’t too long after that that my mom started substitute teaching. She has taught at every Granby school, including a long-term substitute French position.

Between the activities of myself, my sister Aimee and my brother Andrew, her subbing and knowing the kids from school, and all of her involvement at First Congregational Church, my mom knows personally or knows of a huge percentage of people in Granby. Everywhere we go, there are smiles, hugs, and hellos. I don’t think it’s going too far to say that people LOVE my mom and she deserves it.

My son is almost 2 now, but his first year was a challenging one for my family. We live South of Boston, and my mom has driven to our house countless times to help with childcare to help us save money. She would drive up in the morning, arrive at 7 (which meant she left around 5) with a smile on her face, put a chicken in the oven, clean my bathroom, bake some peanut butter cookies, take care of the baby all day, eat dinner then drive home the same day in all kinds of weather. I would find an envelope with a twenty in it tucked in my purse while we were going through our tightest financial times. She would just grab whatever cash she had on her and leave it.

My siblings get the same loving treatment. Forget about “Jumping through hoops.” She would join Cirque du Soleil if it was necessary to help ANY of us or any of her grandchildren. Don’t even get me started.

My mom deserves the spotlight because she is in and of herself an institution in the town of Granby and as moms go there is no better one!
