Why does she rock? Growing up, my mom was “super mom” in every sense of the term; therapist, coach, inspiration, rock, and most importantly my best friend. She has given so much of herself to my sister and I which has inspired us to be the most successful people we can be, just so we can thank her. She has provided us with opportunities to study abroad, explore other countries, attend our dream schools, and overall follow our dreams. Like most teenagers, we made our mistakes but throughout it all she never let us feel like we let her down; everything became a learning opportunity for the family.

Why do you feel your mom deserves the spotlight? My mom deserves the spotlight for more reasons than I can state. As a recent college graduate, she has instilled so many qualities in me that have molded me into the person I am today. I have been so inspired by her strength, compassion, and how respected she is by people in our community. She has been teaching in Guilford since I was in second grade (14+ years) and during this time she has touched the lives of so many; consistently going above and beyond. I can honestly say that I have never been to a public establishment with my mother where she has not been approached and engaged in meaningful conversation with a colleague, student, past student, or acquaintance. This coming weekend I will be graduating with a degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. If it was not for my mother, I would have never discovered my true passion. She is the reason my sister and I are the people we are today. She has earned the spotlight from myself, my family, and our immediate community but she deserves to be recognized by our entire community. My mom rocks!
