Why does she rock? I can think of countless reasons, but I’ll try to sum up how great my mom is with just a few examples! For starters, my older brother has Cerebral Palsy and she has been the best advocate for him throughout his 44 years. She has ensured that he is treated fairly and with respect, even when it means she has to be the squeaky wheel to make herself heard. Having a disabled son led her to her job at Ledyard Center School many years ago, where she is a beloved paraprofessional and is best known for her ability to connect with students with disabilities.

I myself have struggled with severe health issues since I was 18 years old, including a kidney transplant and a bilateral lung transplant. My mom has been there supporting me every step of the way. When I’ve been at my lowest points, I always knew that I could count on my mom to be there to listen, encourage me, and be by my side.

She is an inspiration to many as she never lets things get her down and she continues to do the things that make her happy and healthy, like tap dancing and Zumba. I think my mom deserves to be recognized because she is one of the most selfless people I’ve ever known. She gives so much of herself to everyone, but she doesn’t receive much recognition for being the amazing person she is.
