94-Year-Old Woman Drowns At Hammonasset State Beach In Madison: Report

MADISON, CT — A 94-year-old Chester woman drowned Thursday afternoon at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, according to media reports.

The woman, who was part of a church group outing, was pulled from the water in the evening, before lifeguards and then emergency personnel attempted CPR, WFSB-TV reported.

She was found face down and unresponsive in the water before lifeguards brought her to shore.

Fox61 reported an off-duty nurse also tried CPR, before the woman was taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The investigation is being led by the Connecticut Environmental Conservation Police Department; an autopsy is being performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
