Auriemma's Talking About Parking ... and Not Happy About It

UConn women's basketball Coach Geno Auriemma was spouting off about parking costs on game days.

STORRS, CT — University of Connecticut head women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma did his best Allen Iverson imitation after Saturday's win over Tulane at Gampel Pavilion.

But it wasn't like the infamous practice rant from Iverson. It was a different P word.

Geno was talking about parking.

He told the Hartford Courant that he was "pissed off" it costs $12 to park at UConn's South Garage, a short distance away from Gampel.

“Whoever is charging 12 bucks for these people to park in the garage should be ashamed of themselves.," he told the Courant.

There are other options to park on and off campus.

The North Garage on Eagleville Road and a nearby lot cost $9.

The Gameday Shuttle, operated by UConn Transportation starts running 90 minutes before each game and will run continuously until approximately 90 minutes after each game ends, Downtown Mansfield officials annpunced before the season. Fans can catch the shuttle every 20 minutes or so outside the Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center (23 Royce Circle, Storrs) and will be dropped off at the Alumni Bus Stop on Hillside Road on campus, officials said.

Parking is available in the Storrs Center Garage, which is free for the first two hours and $1 per hour thereafter,with a daily maximum charge of $8.
