UConn's Auriemma: Trump Presidential Win Was An 'Anti-Vote'

The UConn Coach Auriemma made the comments to a columnist in a Wednesday interview.

STORRS, CT — University of Connecticut women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma on Wednesday said he was "shocked" Donald Trump won the presidential election in an interview with the Hartford Courant's Jeff Jacobs.

The coach told the columnist it was an "anti-vote."

Auriemma is no stranger to the White House and the national spotlight. He recently finished an eight-year

term as the head coach of the U.S. National Team, which won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Former Husky greats Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Maya Moore and Diana Taurasi won gold medals in each of the last two games while Swin Cash and Asjha Jones were with Auriemma in 2012 and Breanna Stewart won gold in 2016.

He is the only coach in women’s basketball history to guide a team to nine-consecutive Final Four appearances and his 22-5 record in Final Four games, including an 11-0 mark in national championship
games is the best in NCAA history.

UConn is scheduled to square off against Baylor at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Gampel Pavilion.

The team and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee are hosting a food drive prior to the game and are asking fans to bring a non-perishable food item with them to Storrs.
