Why my mom rocks: My mom rocks because she is my biggest supporter and always there for me. I am currently in my junior year of college and throughout this past year I have gone through some rough times. My mom has been there for me through it all. I don’t know what I would have done without her.

My mom also rocks because she makes the best chocolate chip cookies. Everyone that has had them calls them her “Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies.” This past year my mom’s cookies sold at my church auction for $45 and then she makes the bidder 2 dozen cookies every other month for a year.

Why she deserves the spotlight: I feel like my mom deserves the spotlight this Mother’s Day because she has just recently overcome a huge obstacle in her life. My mom suffered with depression for two and a half years. It took a toll on my family and my relationship with my mom. It was like my mom was living in an entirely different world. She was in and out of hospitals, but nothing seemed to help her situation. I never saw an end to her depression and it really upset me to think I may never have my mom back to her old self. Then over the summer she was admitted to Uconn Hospital and while she was there they got her on the right medicine and has been much better since.

She has made such tremendous progress and I’m so proud of her. She still goes for counseling, and struggles with some things, but overall she has become a much stronger person and she is much better than she was this time last year. Over the summer and throughout these past two semesters my mom and I have been able work on our relationship and make up for the lost time we lost in those two and half years. Being able to laugh with my mom again and seeing my parents in love again is a feeling I will never be able to explain or express. I truly appreciate my mom more than ever now and that is why she deserves the spotlight this Mother’s Day.
