Golden Corral Corporate Sets Grand Opening Date for First Location in Connecticut: Report

A grand opening date has been set by corporate officials but the local franchisee is not confirming what corporate has said. We'll see.

MILFORD, CT — And now we sort of have an official opening date for the much anticipated grand opening of Connecticut's first Golden Corral buffet.

The Connecticut Post reports that Golden Corral will open on March 30 at its 74 Turnpike Square location in Milford. The site was the former home of Hometown Buffet, which closed more than a year ago. Golden Corral, Milford has been teasing the opening on its Facebook page for months, saying the opening was coming soon.

A Golden Corral corporate official told the Connecticut Post this week that the grand opening is set for March 30 but the franchisee hasn't confirmed that date on their Facebook page, which has thousands of fans following them.

This is what the local franchisee posted on their Facebook page after the Golden Corral corporate official said the grand opening date is set for March 30. "No official word from CTGC Franchisee. We hear you and share your excitement, too! Thank you," Golden Corral, Milford, Connecticut, posted. That statement was posted Wednesday and nothing since on a grand opening date.

So will they or won't they open on Thursday, March 30? We'll find out soon enough. The company has been renovating the building for months and has routinely been teasing on social media the grand opening by saying it's coming soon but never saying exactly when.

Golden Corral is continuing to hire and this week posted that it is looking for "qualified team members to join us, especially the 4 positions listed below: * Grill Cooks * Line Cooks * Cold Prep * Utilities. You need to be registered and please email CTGC ([email protected]) your resume ASAP."

Staff posted on Facebook that they've been trying to bring a Golden Corral Buffet to Connecticut for the past seven years. When someone posted that the grand opening was taking forever, staff responded by saying, "A lot closer than 7 years ago. Grateful CTGC never gave up!"

"The wait is always hardest at the end...7 years of never giving up! We are finally here (almost)!" Golden Corral shared on Facebook. Golden Corral had operated a location in Groton previously.

One person posted on Facebook, "Hurry up and open already. I'm starrrrrrrving." Several commenters have expressed frustration with how long it's taken to get to the grand opening.

"I've seen restraunts [sic] torn down and built from ground up quicker than this. Somebody is slacking," someone posted on Golden Corral's Facebook page.

Golden Corral is known for its "endless buffet features," according to its website, and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The location plans to hire up to 200 people.

According to its website, "Golden Corral's legendary, endless dinner buffet features an enormous variety with 15 proteins including USDA, grilled to order sirloin steaks, pork, seafood, shrimp, and chicken.

"...The endless lunch buffet features a wide variety of home-style classics like our pot roast simmered for 12-hours, made-from-scratch meatloaf, crispy fried chicken, creamy mac and cheese, made-from-scratch mashed potatoes, beloved Bourbon Street Chicken, so many fresh salad choices and dozens of other items.

"Our endless breakfast buffet features made-to-order omelettes, fluffy pancakes, hot-off-the griddle sausage and bacon, fruit, French toast, pastries and much more. Our bakery and dessert buffet are filled with freshly baked breads, like our famous yeast rolls, homemade cakes and pies, delicious cookies, brownies, pastries, and ice cream."
